The port of Trincomalee is a natural deepwater harbour which had its fair share of battles and air raids by the Japanese during world war II. The area includes ship wrecks, the war memorial and a museum. Thankfully, happier times are now enjoyed by tourists.
Trinco, as its popularly called by the locals has some wonderful hotels, pristine beaches, snorkelling, scuba diving, boat rides, fishing, whale and dolphin watching(seasonal), a nice golf links, temples, national parks, hot springs and Pigeon island national park, are but a few examples of things to do or visit. Not to mention the splendid seafood and culinary mix of local fare to tempt any foodie!!
Trincomalee is considered one of the oldest cities in Asia, it has served as a major maritime seaport in the international trading history of Sri Lanka and is a delightful spot to visit during its season, when touring Sri Lanka.
