The Knuckles Mountain range is also known as ‘Dumbara Hills’ meaning misty mountains. The range features 35 peaks above 1000 mtr above sea level, 20 over 1500 mtr, and 2 peaks over 2000 mtr. Knuckles Range is situated in Central Sri Lanka in the district of Matale and Kandy. It extends to over 160SqKms and encompasses a number of forests. The Knuckles range has been declared an eco tourist conservation area of great natural beauty and a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2009.
Its forest offers a wide variety of herbs and flora of which some 15% are endemic to the range. There are estimated some 1033 flowering plant species, 288 woody plant species and fauna to include 128 bird species, 20 amphibians species, 31 mammal species, 60 butterflies species and 53 reptile species.
The knuckles range is a great trekking, camping, mountain biking location with substantial walks that offer breathtaking mountain scenic views and lots of pristine fresh mountain air… A definite must Visit!!
