Kaudulla National Park

Established in 2002, Kaudulla national park is located in the heart of the cultural triangle 30 km away from Polonnaruwa in North Central province.

The vegetation consists of tropical dry evergreen forests, abandoned cultivated lands, wetlands and grasslands.

Some 200 elephants live in the park. During the drought period they migrate to the Minneriya park for water and food but return to Kaudulla National Park generally in September. 24 species of mammals, reptiles can be observed in the park. More than 160 species of birds living in the area makes Kaudulla an idyllic place for bird watching enthusiasts.
