Brief Snapshot

This adventure will take you to a number of UNESCO World Heritage archaeological sites, an ancient capital and forest, including the majestic Sigiriya rock citadel, the special Dambulla cave temple and the sacred tooth temple in Kandy, the impressive botanical gardens in Peradeniya. Then to another world of the hill country, its tea plantations, breathtaking scenic views of Hatton and off road treks. Revitalise yourself by topping up your adrenaline with some rapid river water sports.

Itinerary
Negombo - Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa - Dambulla - Kandy - Nuwara Eliya - Negombo

Day 1Colombo Airport – Arrival - Negombo

Our representative will be eagerly awaiting you on your arrival into Colombo International airport.

Meet at arrivals hall.

To overcome your long flight, you will rest at a comfortable hotel in Negombo. Subject to your check in time, enjoy an Ayurveda massage to help sooth away any jetlag.

Overnight stay Negombo.

Day 2Negombo - Sigiriya

After Breakfast drive to Sigiriya. En route you can visit beautiful Ridi Viaharaya (Temple) in Kurunegala or enjoy the drive directly to Sigiriya.

In the afternoon visit “Lion Rock” Sigiriya Rock Fortress (UNESCO World Heritage Site) or Pidurangala Temple. The possibility of doing some bird watching or trekking is available.

Early in the morning and during the season you can experience an exciting ballooning tour to
admire the magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress from the sky.

Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 3Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa

After breakfast drive to Polonnaruwa (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Spend few hours walking amid the canopy of trees, admiring antiquity of various sites or enjoy a bicycle ride to visit these sites. If you so wish, then proceed to visit Medirigiriya archaeological site (1 hour drive for Polannuruwa).

As an alternative, if you wish to indulge in a less active day, a short drive from your hotel, you have the Ritigala Forest reserve and archeological site. The site is also a haven for bird watchers. On the way back to your hotel, enjoy a typical village lunch, followed by an afternoon siesta.

Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 4Sigiriya to Kandy

If you are an early riser ready yourself for a 6.30a.m. morning safari to one of the National Parks to admire elephants and other animals, birds in their natural habitat.

After the safari leave for Kandy. On the way visit the spectacular Dambulla Cave Temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Before 6pm visit the Sri Dalada Maligawa/Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (UNESCO World Heritage Site) to admire the fantastic daily Puja ceremony, where you will feel an overwhelming spiritual experience amid the throngs of people, the beating of drums and blowing of trumpets, whilst the doors to the chamber are opened to reveal the casket that holds the sacred tooth.

Check into hotel for overnight in Kandy.

Day 5Kandy

After breakfast visit Peradiniya Royal Botanical Gardens.

If you still feel energetic, you have the option to visit a combo of nearby temples : Embekke Devalayia Temple. A mere kilometer away stands the commanding Lankatilaka Vihara (monastery).

Lastly, we arrive at the Gadaladeniya Temple.

Between both the above-mentioned temples there is a pleasant tree lined walk linking both temples.

Or relax in your hotel or walk around the lake.

Overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 6Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya. On the way there is the possibility of trekking to Ramboda falls (45 minutes climb), visit Hanuman Temple, tea plantations and a tea factory.

On arrival into Nuwara Eliya, relax in your hotel or do the city tour of “Little England” at your leisure or visit the close by bird sanctuary of Galway.

Overnight in the refreshing Climate of Nuwara Eliya.

Day 7Horton Plains - Kitulgala - Negombo

After breakfast, drive to Horton Plains. Walk, enjoying beautiful scenic views to World’s End, Little World’s End, Bakers Falls. Observe birds and wild life in this enchanting place. Several treks can be arranged from Horton Plains to Kirigalpota and Totupola (talk to us, we are here to help).

Thereafter drive to Kitulgala. Depending on the time you arrive at Kitulgala, the possibility of further exhilarating activities are available, such as water rafting, canoeing, sliding, zip lining, cave visit, bird watching, trekking, confidence jump, village tour. When tired of physical exercise, enjoy a relaxed trip to Negombo.

A goodbye dinner will be arranged for you. Drinks not included.

Overnight in Negombo.

Day 8Negombo to Airport

Subject to your departure time, you will have the option to enjoy some time by the beach or laze by the pool, take the Hamilton canal boat ride, a cooking class, an Ayuverda massage or the Negombo city tour.

Depart Negombo to reach the airport 3.3 hrs before your departure time. Drop you off at the airport and end of the tour.

What to Expect

Temple of the Tooth (Kandy), Dambulla / Ridi Viharaya (Kurunegala) and other Temples – Wear conservative attire and cover shoulders and legs. Remove shoes & slippers. Socks can be worn.

Hill Country – (Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains) – Temperatures can get chilly.

Safety in any water activities or sea – (Negombo, Kitulgala). Always follow the service providers instructions and any red flag notification on the beach.

Negombo – Vibrant beach towns with lot of restaurants & cafes.

Site guides – All Venues : Test their language skills and knowledge. Fix the price before you proceed. Cost should be circa USD 10.00 or 15.00.

Buying entry tickets – (Sigiriya/Dambulla/Pidurangala/Polonnaruwa/Peradeniya/Temple of the Tooth) – Buy tickets from official kiosk/counter before commencing your visit.

Potable Water – Always carry a bottle of water.

Heat – Keep with you a cap or a hat/scarf.
