Brief Snapshot

Your escape will take you to the cultural triangle, ancient capital cities and archaeological sites of Sri Lanka, including the awesome Sigiriya rock citadel, the inspiring Dambulla cave temple and a number of UNESCO World Heritage sites. You will also discover Jaffna, the countries northern capital and its beaches. The finale, will be your stay in the East coast of Sri Lanka, where amazing turquoise seas and soft white sandy beaches beckons you.

Itinerary
Negombo - Anuradhapura - Jaffna - Trincomalee - Pasikudah - Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya - Negombo

Day 1Airport - Negombo

Our representative will be eagerly awaiting you on your arrival into Colombo International airport. Meet at arrivals hall.

To overcome your long flight, you will rest at a comfortable hotel in Negombo. Subject to your check in time, enjoy an Ayurveda massage to help sooth away any jetlag.

Overnight stay Negombo.

Day 2Negombo - Anuradhapura

After breakfast depart to Anuradhapura, the sacred city (UNESCO World Heritage Site), (approximately 3.30 hours).

The first capital city of Sri Lanka (4th century BC). See the oldest recorded Bodhi Tree “Tree of Enlightenment” in the world. You will be fascinated by the ingenious irrigation system, water reservoirs, the huge stupas, the temples, palaces and statues. Few hours will be required to discover this entire archeological site. Walk this stunning historical site or hire a bicycle, a Tuk tuk.

After the visit take a rest at your hotel.

Overnight stay in Anuradhapura.

Day 3Anuradhapura - Mihintale - Jaffna

After breakfast, a short drive (30 minutes) will give you the opportunity to visit Mihintale Archeological site. The Temple, the stupa built on a circular base and surrounded by megalithic columns are stunning. From the top of this mega granite rock the panoramic view of the site and surroundings paddy fields and villages are gorgeous.

Thereafter proceed to Jaffna, a 4 hours drive. On the way to Jaffna you can have a quick stop at Elephant pass, the War Memorial.

Check into your hotel, the day is yours to relax or swim.

Day 4Jaffna

After breakfast, visit the most popular sites, such as the Jaffna Fort, Nallur Kandaswami Temple, the Archeological Music and the Public Library… The city still reflects the influence left by the Dutch, Portuguese and English rulers. Don’t forget to visit Casuarina beach for a swim.

Overnight in Jaffna.

Day 5Jaffna -Trincomalee

After breakfast embark on a 4 – 5 hours drive to the enchanting beaches of Trincomalee.

Spend the rest of the afternoon on a golden sandy beach or by the pool.

Day 6Trincomalee

After breakfast discover the town, visit Fort Frederick, the Konesvaram Temple, Lovers leap, the fish market, Pigeon Island. In season you can enjoy snorkeling or take a boat ride. An array of water sports and diving is available. Many things to do in Trincomalee or simply relax in your hotel. You’ve arrived!!

Day 7Trincomalee - Pasikudah

After breakfast a drive (approximately 2.30 hours), will bring you to Pasikudah, and its many beautiful beaches, the crystal clear warm waters and the spectacular sunsets of the Indian Ocean. Beautiful one day, perfect the next.

Overnight in Pasikudah.

Day 8Pasikudah

Day to relax, treat yourself with SPA treatment, or hang out by the pool or suck up some sun on beach.

From May to October engage in activities like snorkeling, diving, sailing, water sports are extensive.

Discover a stunning sunset on the beach.

Overnight stay under the Pasikudah sky.

Day 9Pasikudah - Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya

After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Visit the 3 stone carved statues of Lord Buddha, the Parakrama Samudraya built by King Parakramabahu I, the museum are some of the treasures that can be admired in this grandiose archeological site.

It is possible to hire bicycles to visit the site.

After a short drive (approximately 1 hour) check into your hotel, rest, relax by the pool or climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress (UNESCO World Heritage Site). This impressive citadel and ancient archeological ruins was built by King Kassyapa (5th Century), atop a 200 meter high block of granite. The climb via a staircase can be challenging. The dramatic views from its summit are magnificent.

Close by, the peaceful Pidurangala Rock Temple, reveals a Buddhist site where monks living at Sigiriya found refuge when the citadel was built.

The views from the summit are amazing and offer a superb sight of the “Lion Rock”.

Day 10Sigiriya - Dambulla – Negombo

If you had decided to miss the previous afternoons climb to Sigiriya Rock Fortress, it will be possible to embark the climb after an early breakfast.

Or have a late breakfast and leave for the all inspiring Dambulla Cave Temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The 5 caves at the summit of the rock are decorated with delicate mural paintings and impressive statues, the seated Buddha, statues of God Vishnu and Saman and ‘Soma Chetiya Dagoba’ that’s said to house an ancient queens jewelry.

After the visit drive to Negombo, spend the afternoon on the beach or the pool. Treat yourself to an Ayurveda massage administered by a Doctor in Ayurveda. The Doctor prepares the potions and ointments used for the massage.

A goodbye dinner will be arranged for you. Drinks not included.

Day 11Negombo - Airport

Depending on the departure time of your flight, you can take a cooking class to impress your friends with a Sri Lankan curry back home. Or a boat trip in the Hamilton canal and Maha Oya River. Exhilarating! or soak up some rays on the beach.

Leave Negombo to reach the airport 3.5 hrs before your departure time. Drop you off at the airport and end of the tour.

What to Expect

Jaffna – Ladies to wear conservative attire and cover shoulders and legs. Wearing white is a good idea. Remove shoes & slippers. Socks can be worn.

Site guides – (All Venues). Test their language skills and knowledge. Fix the price before you proceed. Cost should be circa USD 10.00 or 15.00.

Buying entry tickets – (Sigiriya/ Mihintale/ Anuradhapura/ Dambulla/ Pidurangala/ Polonnaruwa/ Anuradhapura) – Buy tickets from official kiosk/counter before your climb.

Dambulla – Before taking any pictures ask permission.

Dambulla/Mihintale/Sigiriya/Pidurangala – Beware of uneven stairs. Some climbs can be perceived as challenging.

Safety in any water activities or sea – (Kalpitiya, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Pasikudah, Negombo). Always watch out for red flag on the beach or follow the service providers instructions.

Negombo – Vibrant beach town with lot of restaurants & cafes.

Potable Water – Always carry a bottle of water.

Heat – Keep with you a cap or a hat/scarf.
