Itinerary
Negombo - Sigiriya - Kandy - Hatton - Colombo

Day 1Colombo Airport – Arrival - Negombo

Our representative will be eagerly awaiting you on your arrival into Colombo International airport.

Meet at arrivals hall.

To overcome your long flight, you will rest at a comfortable hotel in Negombo. Subject to your check in time, enjoy an Ayurveda massage to help sooth away any jetlag.

Day 2Negombo – Kurunegala - Sigiriya

After breakfast head to Sigiriya. On the way, in Kurunegala, the Ridi Viharaya Monastery which is located within a coconut plantation, is a hidden treasure to be discovered.

On the way to Sigiriya have a break in Yapahuwa, a historic medieval capital where King Bhuvenakabahu brought the Sacred Tooth Relic during the Dravidian invasion in 1272

In Sigiriya, rest and relax by the pool for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 3Sigiriya

After an early breakfast climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress (UNESCO World Heritage Site) the rock citadel built by King Kassyapa on a gargantuan rock of granite and from atop view the splendid landscaped gardens and scenic vistas . Alternatively, late afternoon, you might chose to climb the nearby Pidurangala Rock (a Buddhist cave Temple) and from its summit watch the sunset and the majesty of Sigiriya Lion Rock fortress or embark on a late afternoon safari to one of the nearby national parks.

As a matter of choice, take some time out and relax and pamper yourself at a Ayurveda retreat.

Day 4Sigiriya

After breakfast, you may wish to visit a village and catch a glimpse of local living and afterwards head to the grandiose architectural site of Polonnaruwa (UNESCO World Heritage Site) where you can observe the Topa Wewa Lake or Parakrama Samudraya, built by King Parakramabahu 1 (1153-1186), not to mention the 3 stone carved statues of Lord Buddha are some of the many attractions to see. Back in the hotel to relax.

Day 5Sigiriya - Kandy

After breakfast on the way to Kandy (2hours drive) you can discover the very beautiful and uniquely unforgettable site of the Dambulla Cave Temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site), decorated with mural paintings and more that 150 Buddha and other religious statues.

In Kandy, the Puja ceremony celebrated at 6pm at the Sri Dalada Maligawa/ Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (UNESCO World Heritage Site) is an awe inspiring event where the worshipers pray and make offerings to Lord Buddha. The spiritual experience is intense.

Day 6Kandy

After breakfast undertake a pleasurable walk in the beautifully landscaped Peradeniya Royal Botanical gardens, one the finest botanical gardens in Asia.

The Hanthana tea plantation, tea factory and tea museum is the right venue to glimpse into tea plucking and processing of your morning cup of tea.

In the afternoon enjoy a city tour around Kandy or indulge yourself in an authentic Ayurveda massage session.

Day 7Kandy - Hatton

This morning and after breakfast, delve into a 3.30 hours train ride to Hatton, through spectacular verdant tea plantations, waterfalls and wonderful scenic views. The driver will be waiting for you at Hatton train station.

Relax in the afternoon at your hotel.

Day 8Hatton

After breakfast you can visit the Laxana falls, enjoy a boat ride on the Castlereigh reservoir, or simply admire the beautiful panoramic views of the landscape.

Day 9Hatton – Colombo

After breakfast a leisurely drive to Colombo (approximately 4 hours) via Kitulgala where you will have the possibility to delve into some white water rafting and other water activities or enjoy a refreshing pot of tea or lunch. In the afternoon arrival into Colombo.

Relax in your hotel, by the pool or the beach .

Overnight stay in a Colonial or an elegant hotel in Colombo.

Day 10Colombo

After breakfast take on the Colombo City Tour, visit a number of venues, historical sites, Temples, Museum, Pettah open air bazaar and commercial downtown Colombo. A most interesting day!

A goodbye dinner will be arranged for you. Drinks not included.

Day 11Colombo – Colombo Airport – End of the tour

Depending on your departure flight time, leave Colombo to reach the airport 3.3 hrs before your departure. Drop you off at the airport and end of the tour.

What to Expect

Kurunegala Monastery, Temple of the Tooth, Kandy – Wear conservative attire and cover shoulders and legs. Remove shoes & slippers. Socks can be worn.

Kurunegala/Dambulla – Before taking any pictures ask permission.

Dambulla/Sigiriya/Yapahuwa/Pidurangala – Beware of uneven stairs. Some climbs can be perceived as challenging.

Buying entry tickets – (Sigiriya/ Polonnaruwa/ Dambulla/ Pidurangala/ Temple of the Tooth/Peradeniya) – Buy tickets from official kiosk/counter before commencing your visit.

Hill Country – (Hatton) – Temperatures can get chilly.

Safety in any water activities or sea – (Kitulgala, Negombo). Always follow the service providers instructions and any red flag notification on the beach.

Negombo – Vibrant beach town with lot of restaurants & cafes.

Site guides – All Venues : Test their language skills and knowledge. Fix the price before you proceed. Cost should be circa USD 10.00 or 15.00.

Potable Water – Always carry a bottle of water.

Heat – Keep with you a cap or a hat/scarf.
