You will walk in the steps of the heritage and ancient culture of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, whilst discovering a number of remarkable temples and sites, including a visit to one of the finest botanical gardens in Asia.

Itinerary
Negombo - Anuradhapura - Sigiriya - Kandy - Colombo

Day 1Colombo Airport – Negombo

Our representative will be eagerly awaiting you on your arrival into Colombo International airport.

Meet at arrivals hall.

To overcome your long flight, you will rest at a comfortable hotel in Negombo. Subject to your check in time, enjoy an Ayurveda massage to help sooth away any jetlag.

Overnight stay in Negombo

Day 2Negombo – Dambadeniya – Yapahuwa – Anuradhapura

After breakfast, depart for Anuradhapura (approximately 3.2 hours).

On the way visit the ancient Buddhist kingdom of Dambadeniya, and then proceed to Yapahuwa ruins.

Return to Anuradhapura for overnight stay.

Day 3Anuradhapura – Mihintale – Sigiriya

After breakfast visit the monuments, stupas, water reservoirs and Temples of the Sacred City of Anuradhapura (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

After the visit, proceed to the ancient Buddhist site of Mihintale.

Then to Sigiriya (1.30 hour drive). Relax by the pool in the afternoon.

Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 4Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa – Sigiriya

After breakfast, climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress (UNESCO World Heritage Site) the citadel built by King Kasyapa in the 5th Century.

Then to the incredible archeological site of Polonnaruwa (UNESCO World Heritage Site)(1hour drive). Visit the water reservoir “Parakrama Samudraya” which will certainly retain your attention, as well as the 3 statues of Buddha.

Back to your hotel in Sigiriya and relax by the pool.

Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 5Sigiriya – Dambulla - Matale - Kandy

After breakfast leave for Kandy (3 hours drive). En route and a few kilometers away from Sigiriya, stone carved steps will take you to the astounding Dambulla Cave Temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site), and its statues and mural paintings.

Proceed thereafter to the Nalanda Gedige archeological site and the Alu Viharaya in Matale.

Arrive into Kandy. The highlight of the city of Kandy is the Sri Dalada Maligawa “The Temple of the Sacred Tooth “ (UNESCO World Heritage Site). At 6 pm the Puja ceremony is an inspiring moment where the worshippers, supported by drums and trumpets pray and make offerings to Lord Buddha.

Day 6Kandy

After breakfast, visit Embekke Devalaya, Lankathilaka Viharaya, Gadaladeniya Temple and the less visited Degal Doruwa Raja Maha Viharaya.

Rest in the afternoon.

Day 7Kandy – Colombo

Leave Kandy after breakfast, visit Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden, the renown landscaped botanical gardens, possibly one of the best in Asia, the house of orchids and its many species of orchids.

If you wish you can also visit a tea factory and a tea plantation close by.

Drive to Colombo ( approximately 3.30 hours drive), visit the Kelaniya temple.

A goodbye dinner will be arranged for you. Drinks not included.

Day 8Colombo – Colombo Airport – End of the tour

After breakfast and depending on your departure flight time, you can visit the Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo.

Be at the airport 3.30 hours before your flight. Drop you off at the airport and end of the tour.

What to Expect

Temple of the tooth (Kandy) / Mihintale / Dambulla / Alu Viharaya / Kelaniya and other Temples – Wear conservative attire and cover shoulders and legs. Remove shoes & slippers. Socks can be worn.

Safety in any water activities or sea – (Negombo). Always follow the service providers instructions and any red flag notification on the beach.

Negombo – Vibrant beach towns with lot of restaurants & cafes.

Site guides – All Venues : Test their language skills and knowledge. Fix the price before you proceed. Cost should be circa USD 10.00 or 15.00.

Buying entry tickets – (Anuradhapura / Mihintale / Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa / Dambulla / Alu Viharaya / Peradeniya /Kelaniya /Temple of the Tooth) – Buy tickets from official kiosk/counter before commencing your visit.

Dambulla / Alu Viharaya / Kelaniya – Before taking any pictures ask permission.

Dambulla/Sigiriya/Mihintale/Yapahuwa – Beware of uneven stairs. Some climbs can be perceived as challenging.

Potable Water – Always carry a bottle of water.

Heat – Keep with you a cap or a hat/scarf.

  6. Tips and expenses of personal nature
