This trip takes you to the hill country of Sri Lanka, where you will see and explore verdant tea plantations, waterfalls, enjoy beautiful walks through paddy terraces and trek into the Knuckles range, enjoy gorgeous scenic views, bird watching and nature at its best. Also, visit the local cloth weavers, a step back in time seeing the old looms and spinning wheels at work. Discover the interesting golden-roofed Temple of the Tooth or enjoy the beautifully landscaped gardens of Peradeniya.

You will rest at a comfortable hotel in Negombo. Subject to your check in time, enjoy an Ayurveda massage to help sooth away any jetlag.

Leave Negombo after breakfast to a small village in the Knuckles Mountain Range close to Digana. As you will transit Kandy have a break for lunch then proceed to Digana where you will be dropped off by the driver.

After breakfast undertake your first expedition.
This is a unusual Tuk-Tuk and trekking experience that takes you to hidden and unknown waterfalls in mountains and tea estates. The tour follows the “river” where you can enjoy a quick dip in a local bathing place before you head on to Hungalla. Here you will have your lunch surrounded by a spectacular scenic view over a large pretty waterfall before taking a nice ride up to the well maintained Allakolla tea estate.
From this drop off point the walk is an easy 4km trek through the tea plantation to a waterfall, it’s well worth the walk. The second waterfall (a good place for a swim) is a short walk from the road. You will then head to the twin falls.
This expedition takes all day, depending on how much time is spent at each fall. The amount of trekking can be altered to suit you, although the falls can be seen from the road, this is a unique opportunity to get close and into these waterfalls.
Depending on the season, the amount of water in the falls and rivers vary substantially.
Drive to Digana for your overnight stay.
After breakfast, commence with your next trek.
The 30 min Tuk Tuk ride take you through some nice scenery to the mini worlds end. Here there is an information center about the Knuckles Range and off the local people, the area and the animals and plants that you can see. The Mini World End offers panoramic views of the whole area and on clear days, you can see the next mountain range in the horizon. Lunch can be enjoyed from here.
There is the possibility of a 9 km trek which can take 3-4 hours round trip. It takes you around the mountain through forests and open areas with great views.
On the way there are many smaller waterfalls and lots of different birds and flowers to see. At the end of the trek an inviting waterfall beckons you to indulge in a swim. There is a basic changing room and toilet facility available.
Overnight stay in Digana.
After breakfast visit a small village in the Knuckles Mountain range.
This is a great trip for all enjoy. Siridigana is only 2 km away, so you can either walk to the village or take a Tuk Tuk. The road takes you down the hill through a forest, home of many birds and different species of trees.
In Siridigana you will take a step back in time where the local ladies use old looms and spinning wheels to weave clothes and saris. If you wish, you can purchase some of the delightful textiles that they produce. You can also visit a local original Buddhist temple and talk to the priest.
Overnight stay in Digana.
After breakfast, commence with the Hill Oya trek that takes you through pretty rice terraces, where local farmers tend to their paddy fields. There are a great variety of fauna and flora to be enjoyed along the way as the scenery changes from rice terraces to forest, ending in tea plantations.
This delightful trek is mainly on nice paths and has a few steep climbs. After about an hour of walking you will stumble upon a small quaint tea shop where you can enjoy a cup of tea and also get to taste some local fruit and snacks.
After the break a 3-4 hour walk through rice terraces takes you to a splendid waterfall where you will have your lunch and enjoy a well deserved swim. From the waterfall you have the option to return to Digana for your overnight stay or walk for a further hour to a Base Camp where you can spend the night, if you wish to trek on the following day.
The base camp provides simple facilities (with no electricity or hot water) where you will sleep in tents on mats under shelters. You will enjoy a BBQ for dinner with a blazing camp-fire with singing and enjoyment.
After breakfast, proceed with the Knuckle Range trek.
The treks start from the base camp and proceed up through tea plantations on a nice easy road for the first 30 minutes. After this, the climb starts ascending using tea picker paths and heads into a low forest. After about 2 hours you reach an opening in the forest, and here you have 2 options, whether you wish to carry on up to the top or visit the waterfall.
1). You can walk 8 hours (18km) to the top of the highest Knuckle (1,864 m). This is a hard trek, with many steep climbs towards the top. If you are pretty fit and like challenges this is a great trek for you and an amazing experience. On clear days you can see all the way to Adams Peak. When you get to the top lunch is provided, before you begin the descent.
2). To the waterfall – 10 km (5 hours): This is a more moderate trek, but still requires you to be pretty fit. A steep and narrow path for approximately 1 km will take you to this nice and large waterfall up in the mountainside that is well worth the effort. Here you can enjoy your lunch over-looking the valley, and have a nice swim before heading back down the mountain.
After the trek, you can choose either to sleep at the base camp or go back to Digana for the night.
After breakfast, the morning is yours.
After lunch you will be driven to Mahiyanganaya and to Sorabora Lake, a gorgeous scenic area (2.30h drive). Here you can go fishing, bird watching, walking, swimming and enjoy amazing nature. A boat will pick you up and sail you over this beautiful lake to the campsite for a delicious barbecue followed by singing and merriment. Here you will experience sleeping in a platform tent set up in the trees.

As the sun rises, a cacophony of bird song begins – perfect time for a gorgeous morning boat ride. The boat is rowed silently across the river where you can see many different species of birds. If you are very lucky you might even get to see some wild elephants coming down to the lake for a drink. Before returning to the campsite you may be tempted by a refreshing swim in the lake?
Depart Sorabora Lake to Kandy, where you have the option to visit the Sri Dalada Maligawa, the golden roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (UNESCO World Heritage site). It’s an interesting and revered Buddhist Temple to visit or stop over at the splendid Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, deemed as one of Asia’s most beautiful landscaped gardens.
The driver will be awaiting you at your hotel in Kandy or Digana.

Leave Kandy to reach the airport 3.5hrs before your flight time.
Drop off at the airport and it’s the end of the tour.

Religious Sites – Wear conservative attire and cover shoulders and legs. Remove shoes & slippers. Socks can be worn.
Stairs – Un-even rock carved paths, steps and walkways in some climbs may be challenging and slippery. Be particularly careful in wet conditions.
