Sinharaja Rain Forest

Sinharaja (Lion-King) rain forest is a significant unspoilt forest that enjoys UNESCO recognition as a World Heritage site and as part of its international network of a Biosphere Reserve that is situated in the south west lowland wet zone.

Over half of the countries endemic fauna species are found in Sinharaja, a utopia that has recorded over 70% of Sri Lanka’s birds, an ornithologists paradise!!

Folklore suggests that the Sinhala people are descendants of the union of the Lion King and a maiden Princess who once lived in the forest.

Sinharaja forest is a pleasant and interesting destination to include in your itinerary whilst visiting Sri Lanka. The best way to discover its many animals, birds, butterflies, flora, fauna will be by foot and with the aid of guides/rangers.
