Sinharaja (Lion-King) rain forest is a significant unspoilt forest that enjoys UNESCO recognition as a World Heritage site and as part of its international network of a Biosphere Reserve that is situated in the south west lowland wet zone.
Over half of the countries endemic fauna species are found in Sinharaja, a utopia that has recorded over 70% of Sri Lanka’s birds, an ornithologists paradise!!
Folklore suggests that the Sinhala people are descendants of the union of the Lion King and a maiden Princess who once lived in the forest.
