Matara Fort

It is believed that Matara Fort was built by the Portuguese in 1595. The existing Fort, is said to have been built by the Dutch in 1645. The well preserved Matara Fort is built with granite and limestone. The Old Dutch church and the Courts Complex, the Rest House and Matara Police station was built during the British occupation are some of the attractions to be visited.
